Doggie Downers

When it rains it pours. We just found out that Frodo has some kind of doggie epilepsy. We’d noticed that he was staring and being real still a couple times lately (and then he micturated on the floor afterward). Anyway, the vet says it’s some kind of seizure and that it’s not uncommon in Dachsies.

No grand mal episodes yet, and we’re hoping that the meds (phenobarbital) will keep things manageable. We can use a petmeds coupon the next time we refill the prescription so that will save us a little bit.

The hardest thing so far is getting him to take the pill. I finally wrapped one in a little piece of cheese and he seems to take that and keep it down.

No ill effects that we can see. He’s still his usual bounding, barking self despite being a doggie downer junkie.
